Estefanía is thirty-six and has danced flamenco for most of her life. She grew up in Seville in a house where someone was always clapping out a rhythm, and she came to Madrid at twenty to dance in a tablao.
Now she is the headline act, though she hates to say it, and she dances like every song is an argument she intends to win.
She began ringing you after a night when the audience had gone and the guitarist had packed up, and she still wanted someone to see the last number. You watched it to the end. She has been dancing for you since.
Tonight the stage is empty, the footlights are amber, and her heels are still on.
